To fight the COVID-19 global pandemic, the Nelson Mandela Bay Science and Technology Centre (NMBSTC) operated by the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) produced hand sanitisers, face masks and hand lotions with antibacterial as well as antiviral properties.

Pursuant to the statement by the President of the Republic, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday 15th March, the MBDA will as of today, 17th March, implement contingency measures to limit the risks relating to the spread of COVID-19.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Science & Technology Centre (NMBSTC) operated by the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) hosted the first annual Learner Summit in partnership with the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) and Volkswagen Learning Academy.
On the 21st of February 2020, the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) in collaboration with the New Brighton Library empowered learners with an educational 103-year commemoration since SS Mendi sank. The remembrance took place at the New Brighton Library.
