MBDA offers support to the class of 2020 affected by Covid-19 lockdown

The advent of Covid-19 has seen major disruptions in the economy and life in general across the globe. Education has not been spared either. The MBDA, an entity of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has decided to step in and provide support to thousands of Bay students and scholars. “Our assessment, specifically in the Central Business District of Port Elizabeth, where thousands of students live in some form of student accommodation, is that the environment is generally less conducive for uninterrupted study, especially considering the impact of lockdown on the academic calendar,” says Luvuyo Bangazi, Spokesperson of the MBDA. “The MBDA has decided to dedicate one of the events spaces at the Tramways, the Left-Wing, a 300 square meter venue with a capacity of 100 desks, socially distanced. This facility will be equipped with a desk and chair per user, controlled access to Wi-Fi / Internet, as well as all the sanitizing and screening offerings as per Covid_19 regulations” added Bangazi. Starting from Wednesday the 11th of November, the Tramways Left-Wing will operate from Friday 9am to 8pm on weekdays, and 9am to 4pm on weekends. Students, including scholars who want to take advantage of this support must to book their seat prior. To make this service accessible to all without hindrance, the MBDA has made the booking system available via a zero rated website, www.mbdaengage.co.za and no data required. Maths tutoring services for grades 8 - 12 In a further effort to support scholars and parents, the MBDA will host a BSc student from the Nelson Mandela University to offer Mathematics tutoring programme for grades 8 - 12. Interested parents or students must contact the tutor directly. The MBDA is offering the venue and connectivity. Uitenhage and Despatch Students and scholars who wish to access support in Uitenhage and Despatch may contact the MBDA operated NMB Science and Technology Centre to take advance of the support and programmes offered there. Contact NMB STC https://nmbstc.co.za/contact-us/ “The MBDA as a responsible corporate citizen wishes all Bay scholars and students the best of luck for the exams, and we believe we must follow our words with action, hence this programme” concluded Bangazi.
