MBDA CEO COLUMN: Intrigue does not end well for senior bureaucrats

A theory in human evolution argues that homo-sapiens endured in the evolutionary race over parallel hominid species because we had reached the stage of conceptual thought and co-operation towards common ends. This co-operation eventually led to the structuring of communities into ruling groups and those who serve the rulers especially when humans settled. Archaeological research at diverse sites and Inca cities such as Teotihuacan; shows there was a ruling class and those who ensured that the wishes of the rulers over the ruled were carried out. These were senior bureaucrats and referred to here only as bureaucrats.

MBDA engages New Brighton residents via integrated public platforms

The Mandela Bay Development Agency calls on all residents of New Brighton to use integrated public channels to engage simultaneously across platforms on possible opportunities and development programmes for the historic township. Community members can be part of the conversation on KQ FM this coming Thursday, the 6th of August with Percy Lamani joined by the MBDA, four Councillors from ward 14, 15, 16 and 17 and other sector stakeholders. All valued public participation will be seamlessly on radio, virtually on social media as well as on location.

MBDA COVID-19 response a game changer

The Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) is an entity of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM), founded in 2003 and is overseen by a Council appointed independent Board of Directors. Since inception, as one of first agencies to be established nationally, the MBDA has had to navigate unchartered waters and in many instances, through unconventional methods, discovered new ways and approaches to socio-economic development. All that experience would come to bear in navigating the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

MBDA CEO COLUMN: Muddling through requires trust and hope

I first came across Charles Lindblom’s concept of “muddling through” in public policy and decisions in 1988 while studying urban and regional planning. Muddling through has come into vogue now that the world and its economy have been thrown into turmoil. According to this theory, evolutionary, rather than revolutionary approaches to development, especially economic development is the preferred approach. Posited in 1959 at the heyday of modernism when states controlled most levers of power, it argues that no single dominant group controls society.
