PUBLIC NOTICE - CALL FOR IRONMAN PDI APPLICATIONS NELSON MANDELA BAY STARS IRONMAN PERFORMANCE TEAM
The Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) is a special purpose vehicle of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) charged with Urban Renewal and redevelopment of specific nodes and precincts around Nelson Mandela Bay.
Nelson Mandela Bay has been awarded the unique opportunity to host the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in 2018. As part of efforts to improve participation by competitive previously disadvantaged athletes in 2018. Participation at the 2018 event is not open and only possible by qualification. The City wishes to establish a core competitive team that will assist the City in attaining its vision, which is improved representation by previously disadvantaged athletes at a competitive level. The team will be named “Nelson Mandela Bay Stars” and all successful applicants will gain participation at the Standard Bank Ironman African Championships in 2017.
In order to qualify for selection, the following selection criteria will apply:
Athletes already receiving support from the NMBM (direct or indirectly) may not apply The top five best performing PDI athletes at IMSA in 2016 will be selected The best finishing PDI athlete at 2016 NMB 5150 will be selected Athletes must avail themselves to undergo an intense weekend training camp Athletes selected to the team will train and race in prescribed/provided kit Athletes that fail to honour their participation (without a valid Dr’s note) will be required to reimburse the program Qualification to the team for 2018 will undergo the same selection criteria (no automatic selection)
