Mandela Day 2025

The Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) brought the spirit of Mandela day to life with boots on the ground, gloves on and blue refuse bags in hand.

Sixty staff members and board representatives rolled up their sleeves and joined forces with the MBDA Total Precinct Management cleansing team for a hands-on city-centred clean-up. In bright reflector vests, volunteers traced a route through the Central area and across the Donkin, a key focus of the Agency’s precinct management work.
Today’s volunteers worked in support the MBDA’s broader mandate: to revitalise public spaces and support efforts to ensure that they remain clean, safe, and welcoming for all. Every one of the 60 team members who volunteered their 67 minutes did so with a belief that their small contribution of individual action contributed to the collective good.
“This is the same principle that underpins the Agency’s work,” said MBDA CEO, Mr. Anele Qaba, who supported the participation of MBDA Board members Ms. Glenda Perumal, Mr. Vuyani Dyantyi, and Mr. Mxolisi Moolman, alongside the executive team and frontline staff from the Tramways Building, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, and the Nelson Mandela Bay Science and Technology Centre. “Mandela Day reminds us that lasting change starts with choosing to act. Our team embraces that ethos every day, and today we had the chance to make it visible through unity, impact, and a genuine love for the city we serve.”
